To create LEADERs ... READERs should be nurtured in every child. Reading should be inculcated as a habit and as a culture. The impact of reading on any child is profound; it is entirely different from watching videos or listening to audio books. Reading in its purist form brings out the best in anyone. It could be the best hobby that parents might bring to their children. According to a famous quote “Reading is dreaming with open eyes.”

As a result of reading, the mind will work. The brain is compelled to imagine and create the scenes described in the book it introduces new vocabulary to help readers better comprehend the material. Aside from that, reading is the most positive practice for social and mental well-being.

Reading involves all organs eyes, touch, nose (the scent of pages), ears (listening to yourself) and brain. Audio-visual medium is very attractive for children, it is also very powerful in its own way, but reading has more magnitude and depth to it.

Now let’s talk about the benefits of reading, this definitely is going to motivate those who have all the excuses to excuse themselves from reading…

  1. Reading enhances excellent communication skills – Reading can make you a better writer and speaker. Reading skills can take you a step ahead and help you achieve your objectives by customising the way you read. Reading helps in mastering a language, literally and figuratively. It helps strengthen vocabulary, sharpen sentence structure and improve expressions.
  2. Brain Exercise: After the pandemic, who knows better than us, the importance of exercising, both physical and mental. Reading has also been proven to lower stress as it increases relaxation. When the brain is fully focused on a single task, like reading, the reader gets benefits of meditation. Research has proved that people who read more are less vulnerable to Alzheimer and depression. Reading is a neurobiological process that is a workout to the brain. Remember it is never too late to start.
  3. Window to a new World: Reading is both an escape and an adventure. When you are reading, you have the chance to think about things in new ways, learn about cultures, events, and people you may have never otherwise heard of and can adopt methods of thinking that help to reshape or enhance your identity. Remember Jules Verne wrote about today’s inventions in his booksapproximately200 years back. We see people reading by the pool, on the beach, or even on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Reading is a form of entertainment that can take you to fictional worlds or past points in time.
  4. Teaches you right from wrong: Reading can teach one what is right and what is wrong. Reading religious text, secular text and moral based stories teach one the difference between right and wrong. We also explore various cultural perspectives and ways of life. Reading makes one popular because one is able to answer all questions with reasoning.

 To sum up..the importance of reading in this digital age cannot be underestimated. It is the only way left to improve focus and attention.
