What is Development?
Many people misunderstand development to use of technology. A country can be considered as a developed country when basic needs of all the citizens are fulfilled. This is the reason that even after improving development, many countries are still considered developing countries. Now, I come to the topic of my blog i.e. Nature over Technology. This is a streaming topic today when use of technology is at an extreme. What new can I say about this what has not been said before. So , I am sharing my own experience about it. In the month of June’2023, I got an opportunity to visit Dubai. It was a great experience to visit a place like Dubai where you can see amazing use of technology, architecture of buildings and wealth. My country, India is rich in natural resources, however Dubai is exactly opposite of it. In Dubai, technology has been used as a substitute of nature. The climate of the country is very hot. We find very effective air conditioners everywhere. When we landed at Dubai, it was very pleasant inside the airport. When we came out, it was like hell. Again when we entered the cab, the temperature was maintained. We were not habitual of this changeover. Other thing was availability of the drinking water. In India we can find water free of cost everywhere in public taps and restaurants. In Dubai, the only source of drinking water is water bottles, and they are very costly. In Dubai, they have found an alternate to almost everything which is available in nature. All things are beautiful and perfect. This is the good point of technology where we can make things 100% perfect. However, nature is itself beautiful with its imperfections and uniqueness. In India we find everything naturally, but now people are bending towards technology and forgetting the natural ways of living. Excess use of technology is damaging the nature here. Technology and nature can go hand in hand. The solution is Sustainable Development. "Development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs". India is fortunate enough to have abundant natural resources. It comprises rivers full of ever flowing water, rich and fertile land, minerals deposit, green forests, appropriate climate, different landforms etc. Only thing needed is to utilize the resources properly. We can use appropriate technology to convert raw material into resources. Moreover we need to take care of the existing resources by taking the Five R's: Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose, and Recycle.
