Gurukul Global School, a leading institution renowned for its commitment to holistic education, hosted its highly anticipated Annual Sports Meet’ 23 with great fervor and enthusiasm at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula.
The Chief Guest for the day was the illustrious athlete from Punjab, Ms. Harmilan Bains, who secured silver medal in the 1500m events at the 2022 Asian Games held in China. Her presence added a touch of inspiration and motivation to the event, encouraging young talent to pursue their dreams.
Adding to the grace of the occasion, Smt. Madhuri Singh, a silver medalist in the Asian Games and the proud mother of Ms. Harmilan Bains, presided over the function. Her presence highlighted the pivotal role families play in nurturing and supporting emerging sporting talent.
Gurukul Global School's leadership, including School President Ms. Neena Setya, Managing Director Mr. Parveen Setya and the esteemed Directors, graced the event with their presence.
The festivities commenced with the melodious welcome song performed by the school choir, setting the tone for an eventful day. The school flag was unfurled, and colorful balloons filled the sky, symbolizing the aspirations of the young minds. The Chief Guest took the salute of the march past, a display of discipline and unity, led by the School Head Boy and Head Girl along with the school band.
The event featured a yoga presentation, emphasizing the significance of yoga in maintaining a healthy body and mind. The rhythmic PT with dumbbells, Lazium , and pom-poms by students from classes 3 to 5 showcased their energy and vitality. Aerobics and a Taekwondo display left the audience in awe of the students' physical prowess and agility.
Throughout the day, various track and field events were held, and the students displayed true sportsmanship in their spirited competition. The initial rounds of these events took place within the school premises earlier, demonstrating the dedication and hard work put in by the students.
Spectators filled the stadium and enthusiastically applauded every effort made by the young athletes, encouraging them to excel further.
The grand finale of the event was marked by a captivating fusion of Western and Classical dance performances, celebrating the harmony of tradition and modernity.
Close to 200 Awards & handsome Fee waivers were doled out to the budding Sports persons in a bid to motivate them. The Award for the Sportsperson of the Year was bagged by Shrawasti Kundilya (VIII-C in Junior Category) amongst Girls and by Harkunwar Singh (XII-Humanities in Senior Category) amongst Boys. Best Athlete Title was won by Nandini Biswas (VII-B in Junior Category) & Ameera Khullar (IX-D in Senior Category) amongst Girls and Rizul Garg (VIII-D in Junior Categroy) & Divye Boora (XI-Commerce in Senior Category) amongst Boys. The Running Trophies for Best House in Sports is Samridhi House and Best House in March Past is Prateeti House were bagged respectively.
As a ‘First Ever’ gesture, the event was live streamed on School Facebook for the benefit of the Globalites’ grandparents, family and friends.
In a heartwarming tradition, the School Head Boy and Head Girl formally handed over the school flag to the School President, Ms. Neena Setya, symbolizing the transition to the next sports meet and the perpetuation of the school's sporting legacy.
In a special interaction with the Chief Guest, the students had the opportunity to ask Ms. Harmilan Bains various questions, seeking inspiration from her remarkable journey in sports. Her motivating answers left a lasting impression on the young minds, instilling a sense of determination and commitment to their own pursuits.
